This free workshop is open to PVCA attendees and anyone else interested in mosquitoes, ticks, and their management. A crash course on mosquitoes, ticks, and pesticide applicator personal protective equipment, this course will offer three hours of hands-on learning, including time using scopes.
This workshop has been approved for Core, Category 16, and Category 18 Pennsylvania pesticide recertification training credits.

A crash course on ectoparasites and vectors crucial for both human and animal health. Participants gain hands-on experience identifying common ectoparasites — ticks, fleas, mites, and lice — and learn about their diversity and ecological roles. The workshop covers safe collection techniques, specimen handling and preservation, and surveillance methods including mosquito traps and tick collection tools. A key focus is assessing vector-borne disease risks and developing strategies to prevent bites and disease transmission.
Pesticide applicator continuing education credits will be available.

Participants will practice vector identification, safety and biosecurity, and leave with practical resources and tools for education and outreach..
