Key responsibilities
Plans and executes a study on the efficacy of rodent-targeted vaccine against Borrelia burgdorferi on tick infection prevalence
Supervises and mentors a team of undergraduate technicians
Participates in homeowner recruitment, bait station deployment and monitoring, small mammal trapping, and tick collection and ID
Develops and troubleshoots protocols; collects and analyzes data
Attends weekly laboratory meetings and VectorED team meetings
Contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing
Participates in reporting or agencies supporting this study
Performs additional duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in biological sciences o related fields
Fieldwork experience involving the trapping and/or handling of vertebrate animals
Evidence of leadership and mentoring
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and publish in peer-reviewed journals
Commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment

Key responsibilities
The graduate assistant will work under the supervision of Vincenzo Ellis on projects associated with the CDC funded VectorED Network: 1) molecular barcoding of mosquito species and 2) evaluation of a rodent baited vaccine against the Lyme disease pathogen Borrelia burgdorferi. Duties will include field work (trapping and identifying mosquitos, dragging for and identifying ticks), molecular lab work, bioinformatics, data analysis, and writing.
Preferred Qualifications
B.A. or B.S. and MSc. in biology, ecology, evolution, entomology or related fields.
